SOCIAL NETWORKS: A NEW REQUIREMENT FOR TRAVEL TO THE UNITED STATES?
Our virtual lives are at risk of being spied on so that we can get to American soil.
It’s not official, but there are rumors of a possible verification of our social networks when applying for a visa. It’s an idea that sprang from the Trump administration. Their aim is to be as vigilant as possible when it comes to travelers entering the United States. In their view, the precautions taken when applying for a visa are not high enough. To go one step further and strengthen US security, an in-depth analysis of our last five years on social networks could be put in place to quickly detect people who could jeopardize the country’s security. While this project has so far only been proposed for visa applications, we can imagine that this will soon be the case for ESTA authorization requests.
